Prayer for a Goddess
In the summer of 2017 Borja Mariño was part of the faculty of the Mediterranean Opera Studio in Sicily (Italy) where he met many other international professionals. As a result of these meetings there were subsequent concerts and compositions for some important performers. Thus, the soprano Nadine Benjamin inspired him the song “Prayer for a Goddess”, using the text by Shakespeare, and the famous XVIII Sonnet "Shall i compare thee to a summer's day?". The British soprano hopes to record this piece soon in a project that includes music by contemporary composers. From this context was also born the piano piece Épigraphe on a poem by Baudelaire, dedicated to the pianist Marek Ruszczynski.
They are not the only international performers who have shown interest in the music of Mariño. The soprano Theresa Karcher has interpreted Four Sephardic Songs in her recitals, or Judith Rodríguez, from Texas (USA), who has performed Tres canciones gallegas, as well Gustavo Ahualli in Washington, are some of the international interpreters of Mariño’s work, as well as many singers from other Spanish-speaking countries like Argentina, as we could hear the composer by the voices of Carolina Gómez, Mirta Arrua or Santiago Sirur.
Recently French soprano Eleonova Deveze recorded "Épigraphe" on the Baudelaire's poetry and Everaldo Barbosa will do the same with the portuguese song "Sina de porto" in Brazil. Tenor Joan Lainez perform in 2023 the Habanera La grama triste (lyrics by Antonio Gala) in two recitals in Italy (Napoli and Bari). The piece was premiered by tenor Alex Garbey in Cuba.
En el verano de 2017 Borja Mariño formó parte del profesorado del Mediterranean Opera Studio en Sicilia (Italia) donde coincidió con otros muchos profesionales internacionales. Fruto de estos encuentros fueron posteriores conciertos y composiciones para algunos importantes intérpretes. Así, la soprano Nadine Benjamin inspiró la canción Prayer for a Goddess, con texto de Shakespeare, así como el famoso Soneto nº18 ("Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?") que la soprano británica espera grabar próximamente en un proyecto discográfico que incluye músicas de compositores actuales. Además para el pianista Marek Ruszczynski compuso Épigraphe sobre un poema de Baudelaire.
No son los únicos intérpretes internacionales que han mostrado interés por la música de Mariño, la soprano Theresa Karcher ha interpretado las Canciones sefardíes en sus recitales, mientras que Judith Rodríguez, de Texas (USA) ha interpretado las Tres canciones gallegas, igual que Gustavo Ahualli en Washington, así como muchos intérpretes de países de habla hispana como Argentina, donde las voces de Carolina Gómez, Mirta Arrua o Santiago Sirur han cantado sus partituras.
Recientemente la soprano francesa Eleonora Deveze ha grabado "Épigraphe" sobre el poema de Baudelaire mientras Everaldo Barbosa espera hacer lo mismo con la canción en portugués "Sina de porto" desde Brasil. En 2023 el tenor Joan Lainez interpretó en dos recitales en Italia (Napoli y Bari) la Habanera La grama triste, sobre texto de Antonio Gala,que había estrenado en Cuba el tenor Alex Garbey.
